I have a Galaxy Watch 6 classic, and now I just got my new Galaxy Watch 8, they are both LTE version, I have to move the esim to the new watch. However, it was long enough to let me forget how exactly I did it from the beginning.
And yes, I stupid enough to tap the “Set as a new watch” button.
So at first, I went to the Wearable -> Watch settings -> Mobile plans. And there the only option was add a plan from your phone mobile provider, and I m using different providers from my phone and watch. Of course the failed page pop out. And that’s the only option, tap “OK” then jump back to the setting page out of the “Mobile plans” setting.
After a bit reddit search, I found they all have the QR option, and it reminded myself, yes, I was used that option added my esim to my watch. And you need a special developer mode to enable the QR option.
The thing is
Samsung changed the layout of the Wearable app, and removed the entrance of the about view. That’s the thing, without the about page, you can’t get in the dev mode.
Solution
After a bit poking the app, I found that in the app there is a small search button, try search “about galaxy wearable”, vala!
Turn out they just hide the option in the app, the page still there and searchable. Tap that exact match result, it will jump to the hidden option list that including the about option.
Same drill, tap FIVE times of the big “Galaxy Wearable” title, a new page literately titled as “Wearable Hidden Menu”
Enable QR scan
Now you can go “Module Test” -> “Esim Test“
Then tap “QR TestMode: off” to make it “QR TestMode: on“
Done! Now back to Wearable -> Watch settings -> Mobile plans, you can add new esim to your watch like a phone does.
The migration
Okay, now the new watch can add a new esim, but wait. How can I move it from the old watch?
Long story short, you can’t.
Tho I m not sure if it would move into the new watch through smart switch because I did set my new watch “as new”.
DON’T remove the esim from the old watch just yet! Because you still need it to get sms verification code from your provider! And yup, I was stupid enough to removed the esim from my old watch (I was hopping removing it can let the new watch auto find the plan, what I was thinking!)
Go to your esim provider, login and try apply a new esim or switch to esim, get sms code, then you will get a new QR code to your email, use your new watch to set it up as usual. Or, if you like me, lost the old esim, and unable to get sms code, log it as stolen or faulty sim, get identity verified, wait for human review…. and eventually, new esim QR code to your email.
One more thing
yup, just remember to set your mobile plan to “always on” to let provider setup your new esim, then make it back to “auto”.
